PROFILE DESCRIPTIONS
Academic Chronology
She completed her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Civil Engineering from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), Dhaka, Bangladesh, and is currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Water Resources Engineering (WRE) at the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Professional Track Record
Biva Farzana is a Junior Engineer at the Institute of Water Modelling (IWM) since August 2021, specializing in irrigation management, hydrology, and water resources engineering. Previously at CEGIS she supported the Population Census GIS program through EA boundary delineation, satellite image interpretation, feature extraction, land use and land cover mapping, and precise spatial adjustments.
Her work integrates hydrologic and climate analytics, field investigations, and modelling to produce decision-ready evidence for sustainable planning. Developed river network and cross-section files using MIKE 11 to enhance hydrodynamic modeling accuracy, and also assisted in developing surface water modeling; extracted calibrated MIKE SHE results to compute water balances and compare groundwater-level scenarios; conducted river–aquifer interaction studies; performed rainfall and water-level analyses; prepared Index, Google, and Hydrological maps; designed khals and embankments; developed area-elevation curves; prepared long profiles and detailed cross-sections; completed cut, fill, and dredging quantities; executed advanced GIS operations; produced land-use maps and DEMs; prepared exploratory-drilling and monitoring-well siting maps with bore-log inventories; generated groundwater-level and groundwater-table contour maps; delivered water-scarcity mapping; led irrigation-efficiency field campaigns and site inspections; and converted survey data into decision-grade engineering inputs.
Her expertise includes GIS-based mapping and spatial analysis, surface-water modelling using MIKE 11, groundwater model input preparation and analysis using MIKE SHE, hydrological analysis, and PRA/FGD facilitation. She is proficient in ArcGIS, MIKE 11, MIKE SHE, AutoCAD, HEC-RAS, and CropWAT, with strong experience in field data collection, rigorous data processing, and clear report preparation.
