Md. Amirul Islam obtained Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from BUET in 1984, M Sc. in Irrigation Engineering from Institute of Irrigation Studies, University of Southampton, UK in 1992.
Md. Amirul Islam has more than 22 years professional experience. He started his career in Bangladesh Water Development Board in 1986. He worked in Planning, Implementation and Management of Irrigation Projects like Teesta Barrage Project and G-K Irrigation Project. He also worked for Construction Supervision Consultant (CSC) Team engaged for River Bank Protection Project at Sirajganj. He exclusively worked there in controlling underwater works through hydrographic survey using satellite based digital equipment. He joined Institute of Water Modelling in November 2000. Since then he is working as a Senior Staff in Survey & Data Division. He lead a number of large survey projects involving Topographic Survey, Mapping, Hydrographic Survey and Hydrological Data Collection. He also led Surface Water Modelling for Sundarban in connection with Sundarban Bio-diversity Conservation Project which involved diversified works like tidal discharge observation, salinity & water quality investigation, hydrological pattern on the forest land, impact of withdrawal of freshwater flow from the upstream and sea level rise. He is a fellow of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB)
Md. Amirul Islam is trained on Satellite Based Survey from Trimble New Zealand. He works as resource person in training programme on satellite based topographic and hydrographic survey. He has presented paper on ADCP at RD Instruments User Conference at San Diego, USA.
